“The steps of a man are established by the Lord, And He delights in his way. When he falls, he will not be hurled down, Because the Lord is the One who holds his hand.”

Psalms‬ ‭37‬:‭23‬-‭24‬‬‬

.

I have long drives to my workplace. My shortest drive was 42 minutes, my longest was 2hrs10min, and on average it takes me 1hr30min in the mornings even if I leave at 5:50am. In the midst of traffic, I’ve learned a few lessons – allow me to share them with you.

In my home city, Durban, when you put something in the GPS it gives you a time of arrival and the time it’s going to take you until you arrive. One thing I took for granted in Durban, is that if you drive well you can actually get an earlier ETA as the minutes left for the trip decrease! However, it was in Cape Town where I first experienced this new phenomenon… times increase?! For instance, if you leave and it says that it will take you 1 hour (ETA 6:52am), but minute by minute, the time goes up from 1hr, to 1hr 3min, to 1hr 15min, and up even further until you’re arriving at 7:25am. Somehow, the travel time is longer than the GPS anticipated.

Hear me out. You may think that journey you think you’re on is going to take you 2 years, but your mental GPS has not accounted for traffic, obstacles, and breakdowns.. nor has accounted for which roads will be clear (or not). I just want to encourage you, don’t be anxious about getting there, all you need to know is that you will arrive. Secondly, you may get there before your goal time, or after, but you’ve just got to do your best, stay on His path, and trust that you will arrive exactly when God wants you to.

To be continued…

Kind regards,

Your Friend Darren
