When your body is exposed to a stimulus repeatedly with no recovery period, it begins to develop maladaptive mechanisms. Sitting at a desk every day and doing no postural exercises to counter your ‘desk posture’ leads to postural issues and likely, pain. Running 10s of KMs daily, without rest days, will likely lead to overuse injuries like stress fractures and/or tendinopathies.

Impact and gradual damage are not exclusive to physical conditions, but mental, emotional, and spiritual spheres as well. Whether a (macro)trauma or a microtrauma – any trauma without the appropriate treatment and recuperation will lead to cycles of pain.

We have to treat the cause, not the symptom. Technically, every symptom in all of our spheres, is the result of one cause – sin. Just look at the news, your life, your loved ones – sin brings pain. If you’ve tried all the relieving medicines that this world has to offer; escapisms, distractions, hallucinogens, sedatives – sex, drugs, alcohol, overworking, retail therapy, binge eating, sleep deprivation, or even hurting others because you’re hurting, you know that it doesn’t last. You already know that these might numb the pain a little for a moment, but they bring a whole new set of problems with them. There’s only one effective treatment and cure for sin and all it’s painful symptoms – Jesus.

Here’s a verse for you to meditate on today – Colossians‬ ‭2‬:‭8‬-‭10‬‬‬.

“See to it that there is no one who takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception in accordance with human tradition, in accordance with the elementary principles of the world, rather than in accordance with Christ. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over every ruler and authority”.

May God deliver you from whatever sinful symptoms you’re experiencing, and may He heal you from within.
